Networking is often used as a pejorative term, in opposition to expertise. Interestingly, expertise itself is one of the best ways for developing a real network, especially if you are willing to help others without any expectations. Networks have an emotional content, which expertise rarely brings, unless you are excited about blockchain, quantum computing, Tesla and the like. Human beings respond more to emotion than logic.

Good read! I have benefited a lot from networking. Being a recruiter for many years, I realise the importance of a strong network. What's surprising is that I have few people in my network who have always helped me without expecting help in return and most importantly, I have never met them face to face.

Super useful. Convinced me, a deep introvert and a "meritocracist", about the value of relationships and networking. I'm in my later years of my career and I see there's only so much you can do by yourself, even if you are super talented. Super talents are like magic keys that open certain doors that no number of others can, but majority of work at an organization is other types of, equally essential work. And networking is scaling, and scaling beats individual capacity in the end.
